Call Details

Interesting new frontiers submissions might take a number of different forms.  An indicative  list includes work that:

  • Pushes current boundaries in understanding about cognition itself (implicit social cognition, emotion, intuition, etc.)
  • Explores new connections with others interested in management and organizations (leadership, teamwork, identity, status, power, etc.)
  • Considers the ‘underside’ of cognition (abuse, mistrust, illusion, etc.)
  • Brings insights from less familiar settings (informal organizations, social entrepreneurs, etc.)
  • Goes beyond traditional Academy of Management boundaries to consider research in subjects as diverse as neuroscience and accounting.

Papers: We are committed to providing a forum for high quality conceptual and empirical papers across the full spectrum of topics that advance the frontiers of managerial and organizational cognition research utilizing diverse methods and data sources, and from a wide variety of theoretical perspectives.  Authors who wish to present their papers at the conference should electronically submit a 10-30 page manuscript plus required abstract of no more than 150 words, followed by 4-6 key words.  Papers that have been accepted for publication will not be considered.

Submissions to the conference will be reviewed by an expert panel for inclusion in the program.  Our intention is to attract the best quality papers, with a view toward offering developmental feedback to facilitate ultimate journal publication. Please submit papers electronically in Word format to

Work-in-Progress (“Frontiers in Cognition in the Rough”): In addition to soliciting work for presentation that is at a more advanced stage of development, a differentiating hallmark of this conference when compared with many similar mini-conferences is the high quality developmental feedback we will provide to work-in-progress.  Should you wish to avail yourself of this opportunity, please submit preliminary work including the topic and key research questions, the theoretical framework and model (if applicable), proposed methods, any results to date, and expected contributions.

Focused Topic Conversations: We also encourage participants to propose a focused topic for round table discussion.  MOC is a diverse field and many MOC scholars may feel isolated when they are the only member of their school’s faculty researching a particular topic or using a particular theoretical lens, methodology, or data set.  Those who apply MOC content to work in other substantive areas may also feel the need for more interaction with those also working on cognitive topics. Focused topic conversations provide an opportunity to meet and share with colleagues to help you hone your ideas, to learn of other leading edge work in your area, and to make connections with a larger set of colleagues than any single institution can provide.  Focused Topic Conversation proposals should be 200 words or less.

Doctoral Workshop:  The doctoral student workshop is open to all doctoral students from those just beginning doctoral studies to those completing dissertations.  The format is highly interactive.  Students will be provided developmental feedback on their research ideas, theory development, proposed methods (and methodologies), and results (if available), as well as one-on-one mentoring from established scholars.  Students should submit a 2-3 page vita including stage in doctoral program and dissertation or working papers topics.  First year doctoral students may submit a short bio if they do not yet have a vita.  The vita (or bio) should be followed, in the same Word document, by a 2-4 page summary of research interests.

Submit your extended vita/bio for the doctoral workshop in Word format to
